Accountant résumé example for 2026
An accountant CV is read for close speed, reconciliation volume and the ledger you actually worked in. Name the ERP, the number of entities you closed, and the statutory framework, because that is what a controller screens on first.

What a accountant résumé has to show
- Month-end close ownership, with the cycle time in days
- Reconciliation scope: how many accounts, which balance sheet areas
- The named ledger system (DATEV, SAP FI, NetSuite, Xero)
- Statutory framework you report under (HGB, IFRS, local GAAP)
Bullets you can adapt
Every one names a system or a surface, a change, and a number. Take the shape, not the figures — substitute your own and keep them defensible.
- Closed the books for 3 legal entities on a 4-day cycle, down from 9 days, by moving 42 recurring journals onto an automated template
- Reconciled 180 balance sheet accounts monthly and cleared a €310k unreconciled suspense balance carried since 2020
- Prepared monthly VAT returns for 2 jurisdictions covering €14m of turnover with zero late filings across 24 periods
- Rebuilt the fixed asset register of 1,400 items, correcting depreciation on 96 assets worth €2.1m net book value
- Handled the statutory audit as first point of contact and cut auditor queries from 61 to 18 year on year
- Ran an accounts payable ledger of roughly 900 invoices a month and lifted on-time payment from 78% to 96%
- Documented 27 close procedures in a written manual, which let a new joiner run the full close alone in week 6
And the ones to cut
These are duties and adjectives. They describe a job title, not a person doing it.
- Responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and general accounting duties
- Detail-oriented professional with strong numerical skills
- Assisted with month-end and year-end activities as required

Accountant résumé questions
Should I list the accounting software I use?
Yes, and put it high. Recruiters filter on the exact system, so DATEV, SAP FI or NetSuite belongs in your skills line and inside at least one bullet showing what you did in it. A skills list with no system named reads as a candidate who has only used spreadsheets.
Do I need a professional qualification on the CV?
If you hold a Bilanzbuchhalter, ACCA or CPA, put it after your name in the headline and again under education, because it is often a hard screen for senior roles. If you are part-qualified, say which papers you have passed and the expected completion year rather than leaving it vague.
How do I show impact when accounting is mostly routine?
Measure the routine. Close days, invoice volume, number of accounts reconciled, audit adjustments avoided and error rates all turn maintenance work into evidence. Two of those numbers per role is enough to separate you from a page of duty statements.
